ATLANTA, GA. September 21, 2014 — Studio 11 Films, Divine Entertainment Intl., and Lot10 Productions in collaboration with Sky+Orange Productions is proud to present one of Hollywood’s star actresses LisaRaye McCoy, in her directorial debut of the movie Skinned, a film about the epidemic of skin bleaching in both impoverished and wealthy nations. Starring in the movie include: internationally known actor Van Vicker, Hollywood’s Jasmine Burke (Drum Line 2), and Brad James (Tyler Perry For Better or Worse). The film was directed by Hollywood’s pearl, the lady in white, actress come director, LisaRaye McCoy along with Co-Director, Avery O Williams, a phenomenal director and professor at Morehouse College. The Director of Photography was Nigeria’s renown cinematographer, Robert Peters. Executive Producers of Skinned include Dr. Clarice Kulah, Sharon Tomlinson, and Lotten Yeaney and edited by one of the greatest female editors of all time, Deanna Nowell (Stomp the Yard 2).
EP/Writer, Dr. Clarice Kulah was determined to have a female director and preferably LisaRaye McCoy to bring the vision to life and EP/co-writer, Sharon Tomlinson stopped at nothing to ensure that L-Raye, as she is affectionately called, was on set, happy and ready to go every morning. This collaborative effort has girl power written all over it. From director LisaRaye McCoy to the producers and editor, the women of “Skinned” are a force to be reckoned with.
Shot in Atlanta, “Skinned” tells the story of a young girl that was so uncomfortable in her own skin and the stigma of what society has placed on Dark Skin that she began using skin lightening creams to bleach and alter her complexion. The substances in the aforementioned bleaching products had an adverse effect on her skin. This story pulls back the layers of skin as it relates to color, as it relates to self-esteem, acceptance, loving yourself and being secure with who you are and what you look like. The message is aligned with an upcoming campaign called “NO BLEACH” LOVE THE SKIN YOUR IN.
LisaRaye, our dynamic director did a fabulous job in pulling the emotions out of each character. She is determined to speak on behalf of this epidemic with hopes of changing lives on a global scale. Young girls that are thinking about bleaching and those that follow the trends of known celebrities who have bleached, she hopes to steer in a different direction.
Studio 11 Films is also proud to have an international actor Van Vicker on board the project. Originally from Ghana and having starred in over 100 films in several countries, Van is making his Hollywood debut as well starring in this film. Ghanaians are proud that he is part of such a project that brings attention to saving lives from this epidemic.
